A urinalysis consisting of urine specific gravity (refractometer), urine chemistries (dipstick), and sediment examination (microscope, automated analyzer) is an essential component of the laboratory investigation of healthy and sick pets as it may reveal the earliest and perhaps only evidence of disease.
